Botswana 1997Last week I said that as new countries came to visit this site, I’d post a door photo from that country.  Sounds like fun, right?  Well, it’s not as easy as it looks from where you’re sitting.

The most recent new country to visit idighardware.com is Botswana.  Believe it or not, I have been to Botswana – twice.  It was a while ago, but I’ve been kind of nutty about doors for a long time, so I hauled out my photo albums to find a Botswana door.

Yeah, right.  There was not a single door in any of my photos – not even in the background, unless you count a tent flap, or the door on our safari truck.  I have plenty of photos from Botswana – elephants, hippos, crocodiles, giraffes…you name it.  I have photos of my friends and I in mokoros (dugout canoes) in the Okovango Delta, me giving haircuts with rented clippers at the local watering hole, and a donkey sleeping in the road in front of the Maun airport.  I have the photo at right of me with a random baby that I met in a tiny village of huts.  But no doors.

Botswana Door<– If I had taken a photo of a door in Botswana, it may have looked like this:

But according to many sources, the capital of Botswana – Gaborone, is one of the fastest-growing cities in Africa.  It’s only a matter of time before someone from Gaborone sends me a photo of a door-related code violation.  🙂
